Rough Day? This Should Help.

Thursday, November 13, 2014

If you have been alive more than a day you may have noticed that sometimes life gets really, really hard. You may have found yourself alone. Maybe you didn't get that promotion. Maybe some jerk grabbed the very last chocolate cake donut with the chocolate glaze. Maybe your toddler chewed up a banana, spit it out, and you just now (hours later) noticed it stuck to the bottom of your sock.

Since life isn't always rainbows and butterflies you may find that you need the perfect soundtrack to scream and cry along to. Not to worry, I've got you covered for those days:

Everybody Hurts - R.E.M.

This is like the theme song of bad days. It's always a good reminder that everyone has something going on and that while you may feel alone, you actually aren't.

Wake up Alone - Amy Winehouse

Even though you aren't alone sometimes you just want to whine about how you are totally alone. Turn this up and belt this one through the tears. There, there let it all out.

It's Too Late - Carole King

This song has gotten me through, mostly breakups, but it's a great song to belt out as you reflect on all that has gone wrong.

Stay With Me - Sam Smith

This song is AMAZING! The sheer desperation in the lyrics. It gets me every single time.

Chandelier - Sia (Piano Version)

I'm really late to the Chandelier party. I really prefer this version of the song. It was written during a really dark time in Sia's life and if you have ever experienced a dark time then you can feel that pain and you can feel how close she is to giving up each verse. The crescendo to the chorus is where it really gets good. Keep on fighting!

Where Does the Good Go - Tegan and Sara

Man oh man, on rough days it seems like there is nothing good left in the entire universe. How does that even happen?! This song is technically about a failed relationship but I still think it can help.

Against All Odds - Phil Collins

This song is a real gem. It's a "Hey, look at me now!" song. Again, technically it's about a relationship but I like to sing out the "take a look at me now lyricssti

Hurt - Johnny Cash

This song is just downright sad. I can't really sing along, but man oh man.

Yesterday - The Beatles

Yesterday was so awesome and today is just the worst day ever. Let's just think about yesterday until it's tomorrow.

Someone Like You - Adele

So I had this big plan to have the SNL skit with Emma Stone right here, but it doesn't appear to be online anymore. If you aren't familiar with the skit the whole shtick is that you can't help but weep every single time you hear it.

I actually don't love that song, but it is good for yelling and weeping. You know what is better though? Alanis, "You Oughta Know"

This playlist should help you navigate those rough patches you find in your life. If this doesn't do the trick, turn to food, a movie or two, or maybe try exercise for some endorphins.
